THE SONTEX GROUP
Shared Expertise in Water and Thermal Energy
The Sontex Group brings together specialized companies, teams, and partners in the fields of metering technology, communication, and software. By combining our expertise and experience, we develop comprehensive solutions for a wide range of markets and applications.
We Make Resources Visible
Water and thermal energy are valuable resources. To use them more consciously and efficiently, we need to understand how they are being consumed. This is where Sontex comes in.
For more than 35 years, we have been developing precise metering technology and intelligent systems for recording, transmitting, and analyzing energy and water consumption data. In doing so, we create transparency — and provide a reliable basis for better decisions.
Technology That Connects
Our solutions combine highly precise metering with modern communication technologies and intelligent system solutions. Technologies such as wireless M-Bus / OMS® and LoRaWAN® enable the secure and efficient transmission of consumption and system data. This creates the foundation for modern smart metering and the growing interconnection of buildings and energy systems within the Internet of Things.
The portfolio includes heat, cooling, and water meters as well as software and system solutions. This enables us to support a wide range of applications — from submetering and consumption billing in residential and commercial properties to solutions for energy suppliers and building automation.
From Measurement to Understanding
What does a building consume? Where is there potential for savings? How can heat and water be used more efficiently?
Our technologies make consumption visible and data actionable. Precise measurements become reliable insights, enabling consumers, building operators, energy suppliers, and metering service providers to manage consumption more consciously and use resources more efficiently.
This turns a meter into more than just a measuring device: it becomes the starting point for a more responsible approach to energy and water.
Developing Today What Tomorrow Needs
The requirements for buildings and energy systems are changing. Digitalization, growing demands for resource efficiency, and the responsible use of water and energy require new solutions.
Innovation, research, and quality have always been the foundation of our work. We continuously invest in new technologies and further develop our solutions with the aim of making measurement data even more useful and systems even more intelligent.
The Sontex Group brings together expertise, technologies, and people in a shared hub. We connect products, solutions, and digital platforms, create transparency around consumption, and support our customers in making informed decisions and using water and thermal energy efficiently and responsibly.

Internationally Connected, Locally Rooted
Sontex SA in Sonceboz, Switzerland, is the origin of the Sontex Group and, at the same time, its central production site for our portfolio. From here, the development activities of the entire Group are coordinated and continuously advanced.
Sontex is represented in Germany with three locations in Rödermark, Furtwangen and Oldenburg i.H. Together, the three locations combine sales, logistics, production, water metering expertise and certified testing capabilities, strengthening the Sontex Group’s presence in Germany and across Europe.
Sontex France SAS has been part of the Sontex Group since November 2025 and brings more than 15 years of experience in ultrasonic technology. The team in Toulouse serves as the Group’s centre of expertise for innovative ultrasonic metering solutions.
Sontex Italia Srl, with locations in Reggio Emilia, Rho (Milan) and Rome, has been part of the Sontex Group since 2017 and serves as our sales and service subsidiary for the submetering sector throughout Italy.
G. BERNHARDT’s Söhne GmbH, founded in Vienna in 1845, has been part of the Sontex Group since early 2025. It is an established supplier of water meters in the Austrian market, combining many years of trading experience with its own accredited test bench.

History and Milestones
The history of Sontex began in 1989 with a bold step: as part of a management buyout, Erich Hämmig and Claude Challandes took over the calorimetry business of Sonceboz SA and founded Sontex SA. What was considered an ambitious venture by many at the time developed into a success story driven by technical expertise, innovative strength, and entrepreneurial vision.
From an early stage, Sontex recognized the shift from mechanical to electronic metering systems and launched the Supercal heat meter, which quickly became a successful product. In the years that followed, further pioneering products were developed, including the Superstatic flow meters and advanced wireless systems for consumption data collection.
Today, Sontex is an internationally established specialist in energy and thermal energy consumption metering.
From a team of 12 employees, Sontex has grown into a group of companies with around 550 employees and its own sales companies across Europe. The expansion of the Sonceboz site and a long-term-oriented ownership structure provide the foundation for sustainable growth.
What has driven Sontex since its foundation remains unchanged to this day: precision, a spirit of innovation, and the courage to forge new paths.

Accredited calibration laboratory for the measurement quantities of thermal energy and water volume.
The accredited Sontex testing laboratory SCS 0071 has been accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) since 1996 in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and is subject to regular surveillance (see accreditation certificate and SCS directory).
Our facilities include several water test benches covering temperatures from 15°C to 85°C and flow rates from 5 litres per hour to 200 cubic metres per hour. They are equipped with ANSI threaded connections from ¾” to 2″ and DIN flange connections from DN 15 to DN 150.
The issuance of a measurement certificate in three languages is an integral part of our service offering.

ESG at the Sontex Group
Sustainability is firmly embedded in the Sontex Group’s technology and business practices. For more than 35 years, we have been developing innovative metering systems for thermal energy, water, and energy that help make resource consumption transparent, fair, and efficient.
Our heat and water meters, as well as heat cost allocators, enable property owners, energy suppliers, and users to manage energy and water more consciously. Transparent consumption data provides the basis for measurable savings and makes an active contribution to climate and resource protection.
Thanks to modern communication technologies such as LoRaWAN® and wM-Bus / OMS®, as well as our Sonexa cloud platform, we enable efficient remote meter reading, reduce on-site visits, and thereby lower CO₂ emissions.
